Members of the Month

Preston & Betty Robertson are our “Members of the Month” for February 2010. Thomas Preston Robertson was born on February 3, 1935 in Bixby, OK. He attended elementary and high school in Jenks, OK, and graduated from Jenks High School in 1952. He attended and graduated from Tulsa University in 1957. He entered the Air Force in 1958 and was discharged in 1961. Preston worked for the United State Postal Service while going to college. He said his title was “part time temporary substitute clerk/letter carrier”. He retired from Kerr McGee Corporation as the Manager of Purchasing after 30 years in 1991.

Betty Ann Watkins Robertson was born in Tulsa, OK on October 11, 1937. She attended elementary and junior high in Tulsa, and graduated in 1955 from Tulsa Central High School.

Preston and Betty both enjoy going out to their “Ranch”. Preston says that he enjoys riding the range, tending to stock and fixing fences. He likes B.B.Q. ribs and pizza, and his favorite place to eat is in Betty’s Kitchen, but if that is closed he will eat most anywhere! Betty says that she like beef roast and enjoys going to the Texas Roadhouse. She also enjoys the “Ranch”. Betty says that she enjoys sitting in her chair with her feet up and reading a book or doing a crossword puzzle. Betty also has a collection of pigs. That’s figurines not live ones!

Preston and Betty joined Village Christian Church in 2000. Both have served on the Church Growth Committee and both are currently serving as deacons. Betty is on the Education committee this year. She co-chaired the Disciples Women Service. Betty also sings in the choir and plays the piano before church services when asked. Betty says her favorite hymn is Amazing Grace and Preston likes Blessed Assurance.

Preston and Betty met when Preston moved in next door. They were married on October 29, 1954 in Tulsa, OK. They have three children, Beverly, Tom and Marilyn. They have six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Preston and Betty started the RSVP Band. Most of us here at Village Christian Church have enjoyed hearing them play. They told me that it started out with Betty playing the piano and Preston playing the guitar. As the children got older and started to play musical instruments they were added to the group. When the children got married they got the husband or wife involved. However it got started, we are glad they did because they have performed in nursing homes, community centers and churches and have certainly enriched peoples’ lives.

When asked, “What is a lesson life has taught you?” Betty’s reply was “you have to make your own sunshine.” Preston said, “Live life to the fullest. Enjoy every day!”
