Member of the Month
June, 2009

I am pleased to announce that our Member of the Month for June is Jane Sloan.

Jane Elizabeth Beckett Sloan was born on May 21, 1937 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Jane attended elementary school at Sterrett School in Pittsburgh and graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School, also in Pittsburgh. Jane attended the University of Pittsburgh from 1954 through 1957.

Jane married her late husband, Ray, in 1957. Ray was a Petroleum Engineer, which made them lucky enough to live in many cities in Texas and Oklahoma. Some of the cities where they lived were Bay City, Texas, Healdton, Lindsay, Guymon, Thomas, Wewoka and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They moved to Oklahoma in 1957 and have lived in Edmond since 1999.

Jane became a member of Village Christian Church on January 23, 1983. She is active in all church activities. She is currently serving as flock coordinator as she has for the past two years. She is co-chair of the deacons and is currently serving as a deacon. On occasion she plays the piano on Sunday morning before our worship service begins. She is also an active participant in the Thursday morning Bible study. Jane’s favorite hymn is “In the Garden”

When Jane lived in Wewoka she was a substitute school teacher. She is currently a Fuller Brush sales person. She has been a Fuller Brush representative since 1974.

Jane has four children, Debi, Bobby, Brian and Christy. She is grandmother to Sarah, Drew, Nathan and Brittany.

Jane enjoys eating at the IHOP and Mimi’s Café. She said her favorite food is Fried Chicken and her favorite things to do are spending time with her grandchildren, working in the yard and playing bridge.
I asked Jane, “What is a lesson that life has taught you?” Her reply was, “Enjoy every day - you don’t know what tomorrow will bring.”
