I am pleased to announce that our Members of the Month of May are David and Jean Horst.

He graduated Central High School in 1957. David attended O.U. from 1957 through 1961. He spent 6 years in the U S Army Reserves. David spent 32 years working for O G & E and retired in 1984.
David has taught the Keystone Class for 28 years. He has been Board Chair 5 times, Elder Chair, 3 times and worship chair or co-chair for 7 years. He also sings in the choir. He is currently serving as Co-Chair of the worship committee. He has served on numerous other committees. David also helps with the Village Ventures program.
Jean Garner Horst was born June 14, 1939 at Wesley Hospital in Oklahoma City. Jean attended Lincoln elementary, Webster Jr. High and the original Central High School where she graduated in 1957. She attended OCU.
Jean began her journey as an "oilie" in 1958 when she went to work for Central Exploration Company for 10 years. She held the position of district accounting supervisor at Ferguson Oil/Dome Petroleum, where she worked for 14 years until they closed their U.S. operations. She worked as accountant for Don Leeman, an independent oilman, from 1987 until she retired in 2001. Jean is currently our Thursday – Friday person in the church office.
Jean has taught Sunday School classes, served as Elder Chair for 2 years. She has been the Recording Financial Secretary, and is currently the church Treasurer. She is active in the choir and is in charge of the cooking class for our Village Ventures program. Jean has also served on numerous committees during the years.
When I asked where they had met David replied "We’ve been sleeping together since we were babies." Actually the story behind that statement is that both of their mothers worked in the nursery at First Christian Church and they were both put in the same crib. David said he didn’t have much interest in Jean until their senior year in high school, and the rest is history!
David & Jean were married on February 14, 1963 at the First Christian Church in Oklahoma City. They have been members of Village Christian since 1966. David & Jean have four children, Steve, Brad, Julie and Blair. They have nine grandchildren, Kirstyn, Kalyn, Austin, Jefferson, Ryleigh, Jacob, Braden, Clark and Lydia.
When asked what their favorite hymns were, Jean said "His Eye is on the Sparrow" and David replied he liked "There’s Something About that Name".
David and Jean both like to eat at P F Chang’s but Jean also likes Pizza, Mexican and her soul food, mashed potatoes and ground meat gravy. David said he likes most all food but if asked what he wanted for his birthday, it would be Roast Pork, sweet potatoes and asparagus.
Both enjoy Cancun and anywhere there is a beach and water. Jean likes to curl up with a good book and David said he likes gardening.
When asked what is a lesson that life has taught you David’s reply was, "The Lord provides" and Jean said "You may be sorry about a lot of things in your life, but you’ll never be sorry when you’re kind".
