Meet our April Members of the Month, Robert & Kathy Cox.
Robert "Bob" Eugene Cox was born at Wesley Hospital in Oklahoma City on December 23, 1948. Bob has lived all of his life in Yukon, OK. He attended Yukon elementary and graduated from Yukon high school in 1967. He attended 3 years at Central State University. He spent 10 years in the Oklahoma Army National Guard and held the rank of 1st Lieutenant.
During Bob’s lifetime he has worked for Texaco, O G & E and the United States Postal Service. He was with the Postal service for 32 years and retired as a mail carrier in 2003. He said he enjoyed working at the post office during the good times.
Bob has served on the following VCC committees: Property, Search & Call, and Church Growth. He has severed as an Elder and is currently serving as a Deacon. He is one of our financial counters, and is one of the sound engineers. Bob’s favorite hymns are How Great Thou Art and Amazing Grace.
Bob enjoys camping and fishing and likes spending time in Colorado. He also said he enjoyed going to Hawaii. He said he was a meat, potato and bread kind of guy, he just likes food, and he likes Red Velvet cake. When eating out he enjoys the Santa Fe Cattle Company and also likes going to the Pizza Hut.
Kathy Lee Kragnes Cox was born at Wesley Hospital in Oklahoma City on May 5, 1949. She attended Ridgeview Elementary and graduated from John Marshall High School in 1967. After high school she attended Oklahoma School of Business and Banking.
Kathy has held many offices and been on several committees at VCC. Among them are President of Disciples Women and Church Growth. She has served as an Elder and is currently serving as a Deacon and is co-chair of the Worship Committee. She also is the Sunday school teacher for the Seekers class. Kathy is an accomplished seamstress and is responsible for our beautiful banners that we enjoy during worship. Kathy’s favorite hymn is Be Thou My Vision.
Kathy worked for her father during her high school years at the Oklahoma Conference of Churches; she was in accounts receivable at B. C. Clark’s and worked 21 years for United Airlines and retired from United in May of 2004. Kathy said she enjoyed her job at United until after 911 and then it was very difficult.
Kathy enjoys quilting, cross-stitch, cooking, puzzles and reading. Kathy’s favorite food is pizza but she also likes Mexican, Chinese and lasagna. Kathy’s favorite place to eat is Pizza Hut.
Bob and Kathy met at a Bar B-Q party given by a mutual friend. Both said it was "sort of a blind date". They married at the Yukon Christian Church on April 21, 1995. Bob and Kathy joined VCC on January 9, 2000. Kathy joined VCC originally in 1959.
Together Bob & Kathy have 3 children, Brian Cox, Lisa Kreps and Joy Hansen. Grandchildren are; Caelyn and Hannah Cox, Lauren Tanner, Dakota and Megan Boughman, Brittany and Jeremy Kreps. One great grandchild named Tierney Stanley.
When I asked "What was a lesson life has taught you?" Bob’s reply was "Expect the worse, and then be happy when good happens." Kathy replied "You don’t have to do anything by yourself."
