Lent at Village Christian - The Sign of Jonah

Jonah….for Lent? Sounds fishy! But it’s a natural fit! When the Jews asked Jesus for a sign, he said “I will give you only the sign of Jonah.” After three days in the belly of the earth, Jesus rose with news of God’s prodigal grace. This Lent our special services will explore the meaning of “the Sign of Jonah” as we follow Jonah on his journey….and Jesus on his way to the cross. So plan now to participate in the following services:

Ash Wednesday Services, Sundays in Lent: 10:30 a.m.

February 21. “Saved by the Storm”

February 28 “Praying in the Belly of a Great, Big Fish”

March 14 “The God of the Second Chance”

March 21 “About Face”

March 25 Palm Sunday Service 10:30 a.m.

April 1 Maundy Thursday Service, 7:00 p.m.

April 2 Good Friday Home Devotionals

April 4 Easter Sunrise Service, Casady Lake 7:00 a.m.

9:30 Sunday School

10:30 Easter Worship “The Sign of Life”

11:30 Children’s Egg Hunt

A nursery is available for all Sunday morning services

Prayer Workshop with LaDonna Meinders

You will want to put Saturday, March 20 on your calendars. From 10:00 to Noon that Saturday, LaDonna Meinders will be leading a workshop on prayer at Village Christian Church. During Lent, one of the ways we focus ourselves on the life of Jesus and His road to the cross is through examining our prayer lives. Ladonna will be covering a number of topics on prayer.             Also, LaDonna’s good friend, Ellen Jayne Wheeler (the widow of long-time Crown Heights Christian pastor Dr. J. Clyde Wheeler), will be with her to lead us in some simple, spiritual songs. They have been two-piano partners for many years, and played a program of American music at the Kennedy Center during the Bicentennial. We are grateful to LaDonna for sharing this spiritual journey with us, and look forward to this opportunity to grow in our faith.

Maundy Thursday Dinner

What is Passover? What is Seder? These and other questions will be answered at a potluck dinner on the evening of Maundy Thursday, April 21. Julia Phillips, a member of Temple B’nai Israel, will present a brief program to help us understand the importance and customs of Passover and Seder. Pastor Amy and Rev. Bo Edwards will help us make the transition from Christ’s Passover meal to our Christian Communion. A communion service with members of New Vessels Christian Church will follow.
